MannTek Dry Disconnect and Breakaway Couplings

No-spill couplings for fuels, chemicals, liquefied gases and LNG: connect and disconnect in one motion, valves close automatically.

MannTek (Mann Teknik AB, Mariestad, Sweden) — “the original since 1995”, a DIXON group company. MannTek makes the world’s widest range of dry disconnect couplings — in almost any metal and many composite materials, with seals for temperatures from −196 to +280 °C and the largest variety of connections. Equipment is certified by Lloyd’s, TÜV, Bureau Veritas, Apragaz and TDT.

How it works: push and turn — full flow; turn and pull — closed. The valve cannot open until the coupling is connected and closes automatically on disconnection. No need to drain hoses or pipework; spillage on connection and disconnection is eliminated.

DDC — dry disconnect couplings for liquids and chemicals

Dry Disconnect Couplings (DDC)

Dry Disconnect Couplings (DDC)

MannTek

DDCs are designed for transferring liquids, fuels, chemicals and gases. Integrated valves open and close the flow in one turn with minimal product loss. The connection interface is standardised to STANAG 3756 and ASTM F1122; the bayonet principle ensures worldwide interchangeability.

Applications: loading and unloading of road and rail tankers and ships, process plants, ISO and IBC containers, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries; inks, adhesives, fatty acids, liquid soaps, petroleum products, agrochemicals, caustics and acids.

  • Powerful handle — many options for the task
  • Rubber protective ring — weather-resistant and electrically conductive
  • Integrated swivel on the hose unit, stainless steel shaft in PTFE — no seizing
  • Inner cam curve protected from impact

DGC and rDME — dry gas couplings for LPG

Dry Gas Couplings (DGC)

Dry Gas Couplings (DGC)

MannTek

Originally designed for liquefied petroleum gas (propane and butane), today used for many other gases. Designed and manufactured to international standards including EN 13175. Connection and disconnection at elevated pressure; no need to empty the hose or loading arm between fillings — the product stays in the liquid phase, making a wet-hose concept possible.

Applications: loading and unloading of road and rail tankers, ships and bobtails, delivery to customer storage tanks, sampling; dual-fuel fracking operations.

  • Unique low-temperature FKM/LT seals — for all LPG grades and operating temperatures
  • Integrated swivel, inner cam curve
  • Design 2.0: up to +45% flow, up to −40% coupling force
  • ACME and Whitworth threads for direct fitting to existing connections

Dry Cryogenic Couplings (DCC)

MannTek

DCCs are designed for transferring cryogenic liquids and gases — LNG, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, ethylene — at temperatures down to −196 °C. Standardised interface to ISO/TS 18683 and ISO 21593. Unlike flanges and threads, no retightening is required during cool-down.

Tested under cryogenic conditions for more than 10,000 connection cycles; more than 25,000 LNG transfers completed. Applications: ship bunkering, ship-to-ship, filling LNG tank trucks and containers, rail tank cars, process plants.

SBC and CBC breakaway couplings

Breakaway couplings prevent spillage and damage from drive-away or pull-away incidents during loading and unloading. They are designed to be the weakest link of the hose line or loading arm.

Safety Breakaway Couplings (SBC)

Safety Breakaway Couplings (SBC)

MannTek

The poppet valve design avoids damaged valve seats and over-rotating flip valves. On emergency release the coupling separates and the valves of both halves close instantly. It operates independently of emergency shutdown systems, needs no external power and can be reset on site by one person.

  • Industrial type — releases at any angle 0–90°, installed to at least one fixed point
  • Marine type — releases only on a straight pull, installed between two hose strings (ship-to-platform, ship-to-ship)

LNG transfer systems

MannTek systems are used in ship-to-ship, shore-to-ship and truck-to-ship operations and at rail and truck loading terminals. In 2013 MannTek couplings enabled the world’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering (the Viking Grace ferry and the Seagas bunker vessel, Stockholm): connection and disconnection within one minute, with no gas release.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

How does a dry disconnect coupling differ from cam & groove?

A dry disconnect has valves built into both halves: no product escapes on connection or disconnection, and the valve cannot be opened until the coupling is connected. A cam & groove coupling is a simple quick-connect fitting without valves.

Are MannTek couplings compatible with other manufacturers’ couplings?

DDCs are made to STANAG 3756 and ASTM F1122, DGCs to EN 13175, DCCs to ISO/TS 18683 and ISO 21593, DACs to ISO 45 and STANAG 3105, so they are interchangeable with products made to the same standards.

How do I select a breakaway coupling?

We need the media, size, pressure, connections and installation layout (fixed point or hose on both sides). The breaking load is calculated for the specific installation.
